Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, Hailes Street c1910

Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, Hailes Street circa 1910. Winchcombe is a small town to the north-east of Cheltenham. Note the fine chimney on the building on the left. Postcard by Young & Co. Click the postcard to enlarge.

  1. The bicycle adds a touch of humanity to a dull street. The figure just beyond even seems trying to hide from the camera. Taking a stroll with Googleview, the building on the left has an ecclesiastic look. But I can't make out the plaque on the gables. The chimney looks covered with stucco now.

  2. Much survives from your postcard, which is good news :)
I can see the postcard scene as a background for a Hovis ad (even though it's a different part of the country to the usual street scene).
