Coddenham, Suffolk, The Live and Let Live Pub, c1908
Coddenham, Suffolk, The Live and Let Live pub, c1908. Coddenham is a small village north of Ipswich. The wonderfully named Live and Let Live pub appears to have closed in 1912. It is now a private house and has presumably been so for a hundred years. The building is clearly ancient. If you open the Google Street View in another window and get closer to the building you can see that it is beautifully decorated on the outside. I'm not sure about the pink paint though. ReplyDeleteAmazing how little has changed although changing the direction of the entry steps certainly was a good move for the sake of safety.
ReplyDeleteThe backside of the building shows a For Sale sign. I agree the pink is too "twee" as well as the patterned plaster, but the postcard view is also a re-muddled building too with poor stucco covering the old timbers. Sad that the old sandy lane couldn't have been preserved too. Wouldn't you like to find an interior photo of the pub?

ReplyDeleteYes - great name for the pub! Perhaps the pink and geometric design would look better if they didn't clash with the old red brick foundation.
ReplyDeleteI hope the folks who live in the little pink house eventually find our post with the old image. I have often thought of sending photos of houses I lived in to current residents just to let them know what it once looked like.
