Old postcards from the early 20th century, compared to the same view shown on Google Street View today. The postcards come from my own collection. Almost all of them are from England, mainly showing West London, Middlesex, Surrey, Berks and Bucks. Click on the postcards to see enlarged versions. There are also links to the modern equivalent on Street View. Street View images on this site are the copyright of Google. Again my favorite is the older version, even the trees seem more shapely! Amazing how so much stays the same!
ReplyDeletePerhaps because of the trees, this street seems more sophisticated and planned than the other vintage cards. I wish we could see how much color was on the shop decorations. And congratulations, Howard, on a the great feature at the Atlantic.
ReplyDeleteSo much character in 1913, the parade of shops looks so interesting, I do wish however that the photographer had captured all of the lady with the pram.
